We are Tom Butler and Jacqui Surber, the founders of Acumen Accounting.
Our biographies are on the "Who We Are" page. We provide accounting, taxation, and business advisory services for individuals and small companies. Our menu includes everything from basic bookkeeping services to tax planning to building budget models and presentations for bank and investor funding. You just read the same things that every accounting firm in the world claims to offer. But we're different both personally and professionally. Hopefully you saw that on our Home Page.

Here's what makes us different as a business:
Responsiveness. You won't find gatekeepers blocking access to us. Our direct phone numbers are on our business cards. Our goal is to respond to your phone calls and e-mails reliably and consistently. You always have access to a principal owner of our company...two points of contact. We work together for our clients, so you can always contact either Jacqui or Tom.
Knowledge. We each have over 20 years of experience in small business accounting and business and individual taxation. We know the rules and the IRS hot buttons. Good news for our clients, since IRS is hiring new auditors at a breakneck pace. We cannot make you "bulletproof," but we can identify issues you may face. To us, accounting is more than simply massaging data in an accounting package and spitting out financial statements. Your success is critical to us. We use our experience and technical tools to proactively discuss your unique accounting and tax issues without a lot of useless jargon.
Dedication. We have your back. You will not find stronger advocates for your business than us. Our attitude is that absolutely everything we do for you may one day need to be defended. So, we treat our clients' accounting and tax reporting functions as if they were our own.
Wisdom. It goes beyond knowing accounting and taxes. We have gone through just about everything good and bad that can happen to a small business or individual hundreds of times. Not because we're bad, but because we're good. We've lived through great as well as terrible experiences ourselves and with our clients, and we promise to be there when people need us most.
The Bottom Line. It all comes back to what we're all about: We do great accounting and tax. And we do it with passion.
